In Turkish, there are 8 vowels, and 21 consonants. Most phonemes in Turkish match one to one with the consonants. This will be compared to the sounds of English.
Vowels
This is a lot like the "a" in "call" in General American and British RP.
This is a lot like the "e" in "fence" in General American and British RP.
This can be like "cousin" in British RP, or "about" in General American. It is NOT a schwa, but may be approximated as such.
This is a lot like the "ee" in "free" in General American and British RP.
This is a lot like the "o" in "glow" in General American and British RP.
This is a lot like the "oo" in "hood" in General American and British RP.
This is a lot like the "u" in "rude" in General American and British RP.
This is a lot like the "ew" in "new" in General American and British RP.
Consonants
"B", as in "bank"
"J", as in "jump"
"Ch", as in "change"
"D", as in "dark"
"F", as in "farm"
"G", as in "gray"
This letter is entirely silent in modern use.
"H", as in "house", or the "ch" in Loch Ness
"G", as in "collage"
"C", as in "card"
"L", as in "light", or "sell"
"M", as in "malt"
"N", as in "night"
"P", as in "point"
This is a "rolled" r, with only one trill.
"S", as in "steal"
