Tatar or Tatarça is a language which has its origins in the Republic of Tatarstan in what is now Russia. It is mostly surrounded geographically by Russian language, but also has other Turkic neighbors, such as Chuvash and Bashkir


It is a Kipchak Turkic language (639-5: trk) and seems to originate from the Bulgar Turkic language. Its closest living neighbors are Kazakh and Kyrgyz . It is also related to the other "Tatar" languages, most notably Crimean and Siberian .

It is one of the biggest Turkic languages within Russia.
