Info
High German is a West Germanic language. It is evolved from Proto-Indo-European, and is part of the larger Indo-European family.
It is spoken chiefly in Germany (ISO 3166: DE) with National and Official statuses in Belgium (BE), Austria (AU), Switzerland (CH), Namibia (NA), Liechtenstein (LI) and Luxembourg (LU)
It is closest related to Plattdütsch , but also has ties to Dutch and Frisian, though its grammar differs heavily from this language, as well as English . It is also used as the base for other languages used outside Europe, such as Pennsylvania German, and Yiddish .
Its older forms can be found within ISO notation, as Althochdeutsch
