Info

Ashkun is an Indo-Iranian language spoken by the Ashkun people, who live in the northeastern region of Afghanistan. It is a member of the Nuristani language family, which is a group of related languages spoken by various ethnic groups in the region.

The history of Ashkun is not well-documented, but it is believed to have been spoken in the area for at least several hundred years. Like other Nuristani languages, Ashkun has been influenced by neighboring languages, such as Persian, Pashto, and Dari.

Ashkun has a relatively small number of speakers, with estimates ranging from 10,000 to 30,000. This is due in part to the fact that the Ashkun people have historically been isolated from other communities in the region, which has contributed to the preservation of their language and culture. However, the language is also under threat from various factors, such as the influence of neighboring languages and the migration of Ashkun people to urban areas.

In recent years, efforts have been made to document and preserve Ashkun, including the creation of an Ashkun alphabet and the publication of educational materials in the language. There are also ongoing efforts to promote the use of Ashkun in schools and other public spaces, in order to ensure its survival for future generations.
